The 39th PLUS Conference is 10–12 November 2026 at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina. It is the professional-liability market’s education and placement week: D&O, E&O, cyber, healthcare liability, and the towers those lines live in. It is not a 1/1 catastrophe Rendez-Vous. Confirm dates and registration on the official PLUS Conference page. Last checked 25 August 2026. Reinsured.AI does not host, sponsor, or organise PLUS. The official button on this page already goes to plusweb.org. Trademarks belong to the Professional Liability Underwriting Society.
What this meeting is for in the placement calendar
PLUS sits in mid-November, after SIRC and far from Monte Carlo’s September bilateral week. The calendar job is specialty professional lines, often claims-made, often in towers, often with a retroactive date that matters more than any hours clause. If you arrive with a property SOV and a CAT model anecdote, you brought the Monte Carlo file to the wrong coast.
Placement here means a pack a professional-lines underwriter can price without guessing: named insured as written, claims-made period, retroactive date, pending-and-prior and continuity language if they govern, tower diagram with attachment points that cite a page, retention, defence inside or outside limits if the wording says so, loss runs with as-at dates, large-claim narratives that match the run, and exclusions you can point at. Facultative reinsurance still applies when the risk is offered optionally. What is a facultative slip in reinsurance? is the placing instrument conversation. What is claims-made coverage in reinsurance? is the period conversation.
Who should prepare: specialty brokers, professional-lines underwriters, and cedents who buy D&O or cyber towers and will be in the building. Treaty CAT desks can skip the property SOV. Broker leadership that only wanted CIAB should not treat PLUS as a substitute forum. Different rooms. Different files.
What this meeting is not. It is not Rendez-Vous de Septembre. It is not SIRC. It is not ITC Vegas. It is not a construction-occupancy workshop. The organiser publishes education programming. We will not copy session titles onto this page. Use plusweb.org for the programme. Use this briefing for the pack.
November is also when some 1/1 specialty programmes are still being finished. That does not turn PLUS into Monte Carlo. A claims-made tower with a 1 January inception still needs retro date and continuity, not a warehouse TIV.
Prep pack and chase list
The PLUS prep pack is a specialty file. Lead with the placing document: slip or application-plus-binder trail that actually states claims-made, the policy period, and the retroactive date. If retro is “inception” or “full prior acts,” that phrase needs a span, not a cover-email restatement. Then the tower: each layer’s attachment and limit with a source. Then loss runs and claim summaries with as-at dates. Then wording excerpts that govern: exclusions, insured-versus-insured, conduct, prior-notice, cyber incident definition if cyber is in the tower. Then a chase list.
Chase items that stall a professional-lines table:
- Retroactive date missing, or two dates (application versus slip) in conflict.
- Claims-made period that does not match the loss run years the broker wants considered.
- Tower diagram in PowerPoint that disagrees with the slip attachments. Keep both spans. Do not average layers.
- Loss run with no as-at, or a run that omits a matter everyone saw in the news.
- Continuity date, pending-and-prior date, or extended reporting period mentioned in a memo and absent from the excerpt in the pack.
- Unsigned slip or unagreed application presented as bound.
- Property SOV, hours clause, or CAT return period in the zip “for completeness.” That is the wrong completeness test.
What is a chase list in reinsurance submissions? still holds. The objects change. Hours clause is usually the wrong chase. Retro date is usually the right one. What causes reinsurance contract disputes? is worth a read when the fight will be notice and the claims-made trigger, not a warehouse.
Cited attachment here means the tower layer, not a property XL. Current schedule means current financials or current claim run, as-at dated, not last year’s 10-K stuffed in because it was handy. Broker ops still apply: solutions/brokers. Do not send mail as the producer from a read-only grant. This site does not take live packs. The pack inspector is a property construction example; use it to see conflict-versus-gap behaviour, then apply the same honesty to retro dates.
How it differs from a 1/1 CAT Rendez-Vous
Monte Carlo 2026 is 5–9 September at the Fairmont Monte-Carlo. Bilateral tables, treaty CAT and international 1/1, hours clauses, SOVs. PLUS is professional liability in San Diego in November. If your firm attends both, that is two packs, two chase lists, two completeness tests. Do not put ACME’s warehouse into a D&O tower slide.
SIRC 2026 is 1–5 November in Singapore — the week before PLUS on many diaries. Asia treaty renewal is not D&O education week. Calendar proximity is a travel problem, not a reason to merge zips.
ITC Vegas is innovation, not specialty placement. CIAB ILF is broker leadership, often gated, in Colorado Springs in October. RISKWORLD was a risk-manager conference in May; it is completed. None of those are PLUS.
The confusable product mistake is treating “liability” as one pack. General liability occurrence with an SOV of locations is not claims-made D&O. Cyber that is packed like property CAT will miss the retro date. Healthcare professional that is packed like a construction wrap-up will miss the tower. Name the form on the file.
ACME Construction Ltd is the wrong file
ACME Construction Ltd (acme.example) is the fictional property facultative pack: unsigned slip, TIV 42 million versus SOV 47.1 million because a warehouse was added, hours clause missing, SOV as-at missing, USD 10 million occurrence on slip page 2. It is the example of a pack you would not take to Monte Carlo. It is also the example of a pack you would not take to PLUS, for a different reason: it is the wrong line of business.
If a colleague still tries to use ACME as “the sample”:
- Hours clause questions are off-point. Ask retro date and claims-made period instead.
- TIV split is off-point. Ask whether the tower diagram agrees with the slip layers.
- Warehouse occupancy is off-point. Ask whether the named insured on the D&O slip matches the entity that actually sits in the tower, including subsidiaries.
A PLUS-shaped analogue, still fictional, still ACME as the named insured if you must keep the name: imagine a D&O slip that says retroactive date 1 January 2019 and an application that says 1 January 2021, a tower slide that attaches at 25 million while the slip attaches at 20 million, and a loss run with no as-at that omits a securities matter. That is a chase list. Do not average 20 and 25. Do not pick the prettier slide. Source-grounded extraction still forbids silent merge.
If ACME Construction also buys a property programme, that property file belongs in a different appointment, probably not this conference. Mixing them because the client is one legal entity is how a professional-lines underwriter spends the slot explaining that they do not write the warehouse.
Questions people actually ask
Is PLUS a reinsurance Rendez-Vous? No. It is professional liability. Treaty CAT belongs at Monte Carlo or SIRC. Bring a specialty pack.
Do we need a hours clause? Only if you somehow brought a property form. For claims-made towers, you need retro date, period, and notice provisions. See claims-made coverage.
Can we bind from a conference hallway? Humans still place. A conversation is not a span. If the slip is unsigned, the chase list still says unsigned.
The programme looks educational. Should we skip the pack? Education is the organiser’s job. Your job, if you are placing, is still a complete file. We are not copying their sessions. Read them on the official PLUS Conference page.
What if the tower has a London layer and a US layer? Name both, cite both, do not merge attachments. London market habits may apply to one layer only.
Should we demo extraction tools? Only on a file that has a retro conflict, and only if the buyer asked. PLUS is not ITC.
